Our Founder |

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was established in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
ISKCON has since developed into a worldwide confederation of 10,000 temple devotees and 250,000 congregational devotees.
Commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON is comprised of more than 350 centres, 60 rural communities, 50 schools and 60 restaurants worldwide.
The mission of this nonsectarian, monotheistic spiritual movement is to promote the well being of society by teaching the universal science of Krishna consciousness according to Bhagavad-gita and other ancient Vedic texts.

Environmental Awareness
“The environment - it’s a living thing!” Nowadays this idea is common all around the world. Yes, the environment, nature, the planet itself, is indeed a living organism. The Hare Krishna philosophy advocates a way of life based on the notion of “simple living and higher thinking”. On our farms, in our ashrams and right throughout our many publications, a holistic, healthy, responsible and harmonious life is advocated.
It is gradually becoming more obvious that the current environmental crisis we all face can only be solved by a shift in each individual’s consciousness. As Gandhi said, “There is enough for everyone’s need, but not for everyone’s greed”.
Through our educational programs, farming projects and practical example we are assisting the world in developing a spiritual perspective on our environment and a commitment to environmental reform.
